iPad 2 lines and Apple Marketing success

So I’m standing in line around 5:19 pm at the Best Buy store. The line is about 100 deep and the store just ran out of their inventory. I did an informal poll. For 1/2 of the people near me in line this is their first iPad. And at an average price of $600 this isn’t exactly an impulse buy.

I am getting the distinct feeling that the iPad is on it’s way to becoming the new iPod: you didn’t really need it but because everyone else had one you didn’t want to miss out. If this is true, the iPad will become Apple’s largest revenue stream.

One look at the diversity of people in line and you see the power of great Apple Marketing.

  1. Hi Steve,
I was waiting in the queue out side the Apple store in San Fran. There were more than 1000 people waiting in the queue. It is also interesting to see how people who came in to buy a 16 GB wifi, ended up buying 64 GB 3 G, upsell was seamless. Also very interesting to see how apple comes up with the “white” products in the second launch.
